Celebration of Craftmanship

17th-26th August 2013

Celebration of Craftsmanship & Design has become the largest selling exhibition of high quality bespoke furniture in the country and every year it draws visitors and exhibitors from around the world. Established in 1994 by Betty Norbury the show has evolved and grown significantly and now displays the work of around 70 designer-makers. The emphasis is on furniture, but each year this is complimented by work from several other disciplines such as jewellery, art and glass. Award winning furniture designer/maker Jason Heap took over the organisation and curation of the show in 2009 and he is now looking to develop and enhance the exhibition to continue its success. The emphasis has always been on the quality of the work displayed and this is encouraged by the relatively low cost of exhibiting which allows every designer/maker to apply to exhibit. The show is therefore able to include the very best makers and up and coming talent, regardless of  the size of their establishment. Celebration of Craftsmanship & Design does not take any commission on any sales made at the show meaning that the designer-maker receives 100% of their asking price. This makes the show an excellent proposition for both designer-makers and visitors who can be assured that the exhibition truly has the best interests of the designer-makers at heart.

Foodies Festival – This Weekend at Bristol Harbourside

Friday 12th July - Sunday 14th July

Foodies Festival returns to Bristol Harbourside this coming weekend from the 12-14th July.  The UK’s largest celebration of food and drink will see visitors flock from the surrounding areas to feast on the vast array of culinary activities for the third consecutive year in Bristol. There will be something for everybody here; entertainment, baking, chocolate, BBQ’s, drinks theatres and a wine village – yes, a wine village!

The Chefs’ Theatre will see the likes of Michelin-starred Martin Blunos, Rachel Demuth from Demuths, Ronnie Faulknerfrom Ronnies, Romy Gill from Romy’s Kitchen, Richard Davies from The Manor House Hotel and Chris Staines from The Allium Brasserie, who will be showing you how you can create the dishes at home – meaning you can show off your skills in style at your next dinner party!

For all of you baking lovers out there, the Cake & Bake Theatre will be a must-attend! Decadent Steampunk baker Emilly Ladybird will be demonstrating how to make a gin and tonic cake in conjunction with Hendricks Gin – yes, Gin & Tonic cake, definately our kind of cake!  She commented:“I’m so excited to be introducing Foodies to the world of Steampunk, it’s going to be fun, frivolous and absolutely delicious”. Perhaps chocolate is more your thing? If so, then the Chocolate Theatre will be perfect for you. Not only that, there will also be classes each day, where you can learn how to make truffles and how to match certain chocolates with wine – now, that sounds wonderful!

For the man in your life, the specially-designed BBQ Arena, hosted by Broil King,  features hourly BBQ classes and Man vs Meatcompetitions where contestants cook their own chicken wings, ribs, sausages and burgers and are then given 60 seconds to eat as much of their creations as possible with the crowd  judging who made the best effort.

Of course, with all fabulous food, must come delicious drinks .  The Wine Village brings together producers and wine regions from across the world/ T there will be a new bar area with a countryside theme featuring hay bales and focusing on British cider and ale.  The Bar Bus, a converted open-topped double-decker bus, is set to be serving all kinds of drinks and provide a great talking point, too.

This year’s Children’s Cookery Theatre will be operated by local cook school Kiddy Cook who will run a series of workshops incorporating gastronomic experiments.  Kiddy Cook director Nikki Geddes said:  “We’ll get the children making carbon dioxide rockets and bread bubble bombs to show them the chemical reaction that makes bread rise. They’ll learn the difference between taste and flavour and think about the effect sound has on their ability to eat.”

Relaxation in 2013 comes in the form of a City Beach where families can chill out on deckchairs with an artisan ice-cream or an afternoon tea whilst children build sandcastles.

The entertainment stage features various live music acts performing every day until the later closing time this year of 8pm.
